Intent and Objectives
This conference is designed to provide state of the art information and best practice guidelines in the treatment of acute and chronic wounds. Both medical and surgical management strategies to optimize wound healing will be addressed.

Upon completion of this conference, the participant should be able to:

•    Describe the mechanisms of action of selected topical agents and their effects on wound healing
•    Expand current knowledge of the pathophysiology of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and how it helps patients to heal
•    Identify evidenced-based treatment strategies to facilitate healing of burns
•    Describe the specialized care required for healing of diabetic foot ulcers
•    Understand the difference in pathophysiology and appearance between venous, arterial and mixed ulcers
•    Recognize treatment strategies to improve lymphedema
•    List various reasons why surgical wounds do not heal as expected
•    Describe the characteristics of vasculitis wounds and various treatment strategies
•    Identify approved indications for hyperbaric oxygen therapy
•    Comprehend new standards of care related to pressure injury wounds
•    Identify prevalence and characteristics of skin cancer
•    Identify characteristics and treatment options of psoriasis
•    Identify prevalence and characteristics of calciphylaxis
•    Identify characteristics and treatment of pyoderma gangrenosum

Who Should Attend
This course is intended for physicians, nurses, physical therapists, podiatrists, advanced practice providers and all clinicians involved in wound healing or wound care issues. Course material will benefit both novice and experienced clinicians.

Continuing Education Credit
The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Other health care professionals are awarded 0.7 continuing education units (CEU’s) which are equal to 7.0 contact hours.

Attendees can earn up to 7.0 CECH for this seminar. UPMC Mercy is approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education as a sponsor of continuing education in podiatric medicine.

Nursing Accreditation
This continuing nursing education activity was approved by The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Provider Unit, an approved provider of continuing nursing education by PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Participants who attend the entire activity and complete an evaluation form will be awarded a certificate and 7.0 contact hours.

After September 2, 2016, all registrations for this course are accepted as on-site registrations provided space is available.

A confirmation letter will be faxed, mailed or emailed if registration is completed through the mail, fax or email by the registration deadline. If you register online, you will receive an immediate email confirmation message. Please note: Registration is not complete until you receive the confirmation.
